with our creative PP teacher Ms Drum

Harmony, our school mascot for friendship and compassion, is on display in the school library

Take time to read the children’s messages embellishing her couture, they are universal values for peace and happiness.

Everyone - teachers, parents and even some very enthusiastic kids, who joined in after school one Thursday enjoyed working with Sandy McKendrick to create Harmony. It came together so quickly under Sandy's guiding help and later Ms Drum added the facial features to show off Harmony's personality - full of peace, empathy and of course a sense of humour.

Puppet Play on Harmony Day

Each student had created their puppets as part of a Technology and Enterprise project investigating systems and materials. The range of puppets produced was amazing. Each class then devised a number of plays which made use of groups of puppets. The school oval was full of make shift puppet theatres and eager puppeteers and audiences. Before the plays began, Harmony was led by Ms Drum around the oval and a census of puppets produced by the Beaconsfield community came to a grand total of 367 hand puppets.

Million Puppet Project Exhibition and Census at Perth Concert Hall on Sunday April 6th

Our  367 hand puppets, (made in our classrooms in less than a month), were delivered to Spare Parts Theatre for inclusion in the Million Puppet Project.

...but we don't have any photos of the display :( Let Mrs O'Brien know if you can forward her a few pictures

As a token of their appreciation, Spare Parts Theatre organized the  Japanese Karakuri Puppet Company to perform for the whole school free of charge on Monday April 7th

Helping Others

Another tremendous outcome from our Harmony Day event was $441 raised by our school community money chain to benefit the Family Health Trust, in Africa.

Our Puppet Play on Harmony Day, also received news coverage in the local Fremantle Herald newspapers and the school Matters magazine.
