DRESS CODE POLICY
RATIONALE
The Beaconsfield Primary School Council supports a school dress code policy and encourages the wearing of the school uniform. This policy supports the Department of Education and Training’s requirement that students attending government schools are required to be clean and dressed appropriately for school activities.
POLICY
The Beaconsfield Primary School Council believes that the school dress code:
· ensures students are dressed safely for specific school activities e.g, physical education
· promotes the school’s Sun Smart Policy
· encourages equity among students
· develops pride and team spirit in students
· enhances the public image and status of the school
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES
1. White, navy or jade shirts with school logos.
2. Plain white, navy or jade shirts
3. Shorts, long pants or skirts in navy or jade.
4. School windcheaters/jumpers/tracksuits in navy or jade.
5. Appropriate footwear that is protective of the students’ feet ie. No thongs, bare feet or high heeled shoes.
6. Students are not permitted to wear clothing that displays large slogans, brand names, pictures or any material of an offensive nature.
7. Wide brimmed or legionnaire style hats, preferably in school colours, for sun protection which supports our Sun Smart Policy.
8. Students must wear the school uniform on excursions or interschool sport.
9. Students are to wear appropriate clothing suitable for regular physical activity i.e. shorts/long pants, skirts that are suitable for physical activities.
· Students, who wish to modify the school dress code for religious or health reasons, are required to discuss the matter with the school principal and apply for an exemption.
· Students not following the dress code may not be permitted to attend excursions or school activities outside the school.
· For safety reasons the wearing of jewellery is not recommended at Beaconsfield Primary School.
· Boys and girls with long hair are to have their hair tied back to assist in the prevention of head lice as well as for safety reasons during physical activities.
