CLASSWORK 2009
Year 6/7 Room 17
Our Year 7 Camp to Fairbridge
by Eloise and Gen

On Tuesday 26 May 2009, the Year 7’s from Beacy - Eloise, Genevieve, Eimear, Mili, Bella, Sam, Liam, Will and John piled into the teacher’s cars ready to go to camp.
Camp was at Fairbridge but first stop was Pinjarra. There we ate lunch, then did the food shopping. We split into teams of two or three, each team was responsible for buying the ingredients for a specific meal.
After shopping, we continued on to Fairbridge. When we got there everyone unpacked, we then went on a History Tour. Our guides name was Bert and he told us lots about the history of Fairbridge.
When we got back to our house, Shakespeare, Sam, John and Mili prepared our dinner of Spaghetti Bolognese. Genevieve and Sam made damper when they were finished. We then went to our campfire to roast marshmallows and play spotlight.
The following morning we were woken up to the sound of Mr Dart banging pots at our door. Fitness was a walk in the paddock. After a substantial breakfast of bacon and egg sandwiches we went to Alcoa, “Australia’s Mining Company”. We went on a tour bus to see where they mine bauxite.
After lunch of fresh rolls, we went canoeing with Bert. We were in three-people canoes and went down the Murray River. When we got back, Mr Dart took Genevieve, Eloise, Will and John to the barbecue to cook the hamburgers. After dinner we returned to our campfire for more marshmallows and another game of spotlight.
The next day we were woken up early - again by Mr Dart, to do Archery. Bert was there to show us what to do. It was really fun and at the end we had a shoot off and tried to hit balloons. When we got back we did Orienteering until lunchtime. After lunch, Bert took us on a Bush Survival Course, and we learnt how to collect water and food in the bush. Will and Sam managed to even light a fire with a magnifying glass and sunlight. When we returned, Mr Dart took Will and John fishing, and we had a photo presentation night, showing all the pictures we’d taken at camp.
On Friday, our last day, we had breakfast then went on the High Ropes Course after we packed. Bert wasn’t there though we had a man called Brett instead. It was fun and freaky for all of us! When the course was complete, we drove all the way to Rockingham to swim at the beach. After a cool down, we ate our lunch, then departed for Beacy. When we arrived, we saw our families again! Then we went home after a great camp.
On behalf of the Year 7’s, we would like to thank Ms Gannon, Mr Dart and Mrs Biddiscombe for all their hard work!
