| The Four Noble Truths
1. There is unhappiness in life. 2. People are unhappy if they only want their own way. 3. There is a way to end this. 4. The way is called the Noble Eightfold Path. It shows people how to live wisely and happily. The wheel with eight spokes represents - right beliefs; right aims; right speech; right conduct; right occupation; right effort; right thinking; right concentration. Reincarnation - All is impermanent. Depending on how you lived your life, so you will come back in another form. Death is not an end, but part of the chain of existence. The main goal is to reach Nirvana. |

| Reincarnation - Karma means that your birth, length of life and life experiences are based on your previous acts. Rebirth means that your soul passes on from one body to another. |
| Hindus must practice truth and avoid all physical, mental, emotional and moral hurt to any living creature. Hindus have a special reverence for cows, who represent the 'mother'. They must respect other people's property. |
| You can follow more than one path to reach Nirvana. |
| Hindus have four main aims in life.
Dharma - religious and social duties - is the most important Artha - earning a livelihood by honest means; Kama - enjoying the good things in life in moderation; Moksha - leading the soul towards God and gaining release from the cycle of rebirths. |
| Caste System - Society was divided into 5 groups - Brahmins (priests...) at the top and Panchamas or Untouchables at the bottom. This used to strongly control things like the work that you did, and who you could marry. With education, the caste system has weakened but does still influence Indian life. |

| Islam is a total and complete way of life.
The Five Pillars of Islam 1. Faith in God; 2. Praying five times daily; 3. Giving of alms (money, goods or property) 2 1/2 % of your income; 4. Fasting through Ramadan; 5. Pilgrimage, if you are well, to go to Mecca at least once in your life. |

Mohammad is the last in a line of God's messengers beginning with Adam and including Abraham, Noah, Moses and Jesus. |
| Muslims believe that angels do special missions. On the day of Judgement, God will decide on how well you have lived your life and you will go to heaven or hell. |
| They believe that people are born free of sin. Sins can be forgiven. All people are created equal in front of God. |
| Some food like pork and alcohol, narcotics and drugs are not permitted. |

A persons actions determine whether the soul will enter the next life as a plant, animal or human being. Ritual is unnecessary, right conduct is essential. By doing this and by living a good and simple life, people could free themselves from the cycle of reincarnation. Open to other religions. |
