The Intensive English Centre in partnership with the Beaconsfield P&C has received a grant of $4,000 from the Community Arts Network to produce a DVD; “ Sharing Stories” which will document the multicultural diversity at Beaconsfield Primary School.
Senior IEC students and mainstream students will have the opportunity to learn media-arts skills such as film and audio recording, directing and producing the DVD with equipment and guest speakers from the Film and Television Institute in Fremantle.
Recently, Year 6 & 7 students commenced the film and audio recording of ‘Sharing Stories’ interviews between students, in buddy classes and with members of staff. The project will continue until Term 2, 2008. Here are some photo’s of our first recording session. |

The Community Arts Network grant for “Sharing Stories at Beaconsfield Primary School” project was funded by Healthways through Community Arts Network WA (CANWA) and Relationship Australia’s: “Making Time To Talk” program.
The program is aimed at encouraging community participation in arts and in particular young people. The aims of the project are to get communities to talk with each other and learn about each other; and for communities to grow a collective vision for the future. It is expected that the project will be sustainable and will build bridges across diversity.
moving onto 2008
The final filming sessions for the “ Sharing Stories” DVD Production, captured footage of the “Beacy’s Got Talent” school fundraising event and our Harmony Day celebrations which featured 367 hand puppets and puppet plays, hosted by our giant puppet; Harmony ant the Year 7 Leadership Day 2008.
In the Sharing Stories production process, as well as documenting multicultural aspects of the school, we have been able to record whole school events such as the 2007 Graduation and Beacy’s Got Talent 2008.
By the end of Term 2 2008, it is anticipated that these 3 productions will be completed and a community screening of the final productions will be arranged at this time.
