James Cook was born in 1728, died in 1779. He was a British explorer and navigator, famous for his three great trips of exploration. He discovered the Eastern coast of Australia in 1770 and claimed it for Great Britain under the name of New South Wales.
Bougainville was born in 1729 and died in 1811. He was a French military officer and navigator. He was the first Frenchman to sail around the world. In 1766-1769 he took part in the charting of Western Australia.
D'Entreucasteaux was born in 1737 and died in 1783. He did a great deal in Australia's charting. He charted the western, northern and southern cost of Australia, he also charted the whole of Tasmania.
