Friendliness is:
- Taking an interest in people.
- Being courteous.
- Happily sharing the things you have.
- Going out of the way to make others feel welcome.
- Sharing the good times and the bad times together.
- Caring without being asked to care.
After the Virtue of Friendliness was introduced at Assembly, Mrs O'Brien talked to each of the Mainstream Art classes about the symbols of friendship and love that we find in our everyday environment. The Heart is often used in jewellery, advertisements, patterns on paper or fabric, or as a design element we might see in everything from furniture to wall tiles.
Each class made a Paper Quilt of Hearts, after viewing Mrs O'Brien's "A Grandmother's Quilt" which included many heart inspired quilting designs from her own family history.

Arts Ideas – What is freindliness and friendship
Arts Skills and Processes – The technique of collage incorporating
the skills of cutting, gluing and choosing appropriate colours and materials.
Arts Responses – Interpreting the use of the symbol of a heart to complete
one standard sized block as part of a class Quilt.
Arts in Society - From viewing “A Grandmother’s Quilt” where
I incorporated many personally significant heart designs as the quilting
patterns and also from being aware of the use of the heart as a symbol
of love and friendship in advertising in the lead up to Valentines Day.
